Comparing Fail-Sailence Provided by Process Duplication versus Internal Error Detection for DHCP Server

This paper uses fault injection to compare the ability of two fault-tolerant software architectures to protect an application from faults. These two architectures are Voltan, which uses process duplication, and Chameleon ARMORs, which use self-checking. The target application is a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server, a widely used application for managing IP addresses. NFTAPE, a s...

Passive Duplicate Address Detection for the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP)

During a layer-3 handoff, address acquisition via DHCP is often the dominant source of handoff delay, duplicate address detection (DAD) being responsible for most of the delay. We propose a new DAD algorithm, passive DAD (pDAD), which we show to be effective, yet introduce only a few milliseconds of delay. Unlike traditional DAD, pDAD also detects the unauthorized use of an IP address before it...

An Efficient and Scalable Address Autoconfiguration in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

Several protocols of address autoconfiguration in the mobile ad hoc network (MANET) are present in the current literature. Although some of these protocols perform decently in sparse and small networks, but exhibit poor performance (e.g., single point of failure, storage limitation, large protocol overhead and so on) when the network is either dense or very large. In this paper, we propose an e...

An Efficient DAD Scheme for Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 Handoff

Since the interruption between receiving new AR’s RA and receiving BA from HA is depending upon DAD (Duplicate Address Detection), Mobile Node’s handoff performance is very much impaired by the Duplicate Address Detection (DAD) procedure for the newly formed Care-of Address in Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 (HMIPv6). In this paper, we recommend a novel cross-protocol design approach for the DAD probl...

Study of Detection of IP Address Conflicts in MANETS

Much effort has been put into the development of routing protocols for route discovery and maintenance for the nodes in a MANET to communicate. The researchers in the routing area assume that all the nodes in the network are already configured to have unique IP Address in the network. Dynamic Address Allocation and Management is a very crucial and difficult problem in MANETs. Since there is no ...
